Cavite cop nabbed for ‘hot car,’ unlicensed gun

October 20, 2018

A CAVITE police officer on Friday was arrested for allegedly driving a “hot car” and possessing an unlicensed firearm in Quezon City.

QC top cop Chief Supt. Joselito Esquivel identified the policeman as PO2 Randy Batonghinog, 34, assigned with the Cavite Police Station and a resident of Bgy. Socorro in Cubao, QC.

Batonghinog was flagged down by operatives of the Cubao Police Station (PS-7) on Gen. Aguinaldo Ave. corner Gen. MacArthur Ave. in Araneta Center, Bgy. Socorro.

Prior to the arrest, Marta Gabriella Soler rented a red Mica Toyota Innova from RCB Rent A Car business last July 28 and agreed to pay P50,000 in monthly rental.

However, Soler failed to pay the rental fee for the month of September and could no longer be contacted. The incident was reported to village officials in Bgy. Pansol and to the police station.

Around 2:30 p.m. last Friday, the vehicle was spotted by an employee of RCB car rental at 13th Avenue, Bgy. Socorro, Cubao. The employee immediately sought the assistance of the members of the PS-7, who responded that led to the arrest of Batonghinog.

Batonghinog said that he borrowed the vehicle from a friend whom he did not identify.

Aside from the stolen car, the Cavite cop was also caught in possession of an unlicensed Pietro Berretta caliber .32 loaded with eight live ammunition.

Batonghinog was turned over to the Anti-Carnapping Section of the Quezon City Police District for further investigation and  filing of charges.
