A drug inmate who bolted last June 2 the Mabolo police station lock-up facility in Cebu City was killed in a shootout with policemen who tracked him down to his hiding place in Getafe, Bohol early afternoon Saturday.
Police Regional Office 7 director Brigadier General Debold M. Sinas yesterday said suspect Ernesto Ongos alias ‘’Balodyo,’ 25 and resident of Barangay Carreta, Cebu City, was located by a tracker team from the Cebu City Police Office led by Major Dindo Juanito Alaras in his hiding place in Sitio Baas in Bgy. Saguise, Getafe, Bohol around 1:30 p.m. Saturday.
Sinas said while about to be arrested by the Cebu City policemen with the help of members of the Getafe municipal police, the suspect pulled out a gun and started shooting at the lawmen.
Officers returned fire hitting the suspect who died while being taken to the Talibon Hospital.
Recovered from the slain suspect was a loaded .38 revolver.
According to Cebu City Police Office director Colonel Royina Marzan, the suspect was arrested for illegal possession of drugs and firearm by members of the Police Station 4 but escaped last June 2.
Prior to his escape, Ongos has been charged with violation of Republic Act 9165 or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002 and RA 10591 or the Comprehensive Firearms and Ammunition Regulations Act of 2013 by the local police.
