Cebu cop, companion jailed for ‘swertres’ game

A member of the Central Visayas police force and his civilian pal were hauled to jail by agents of the Philippine National Police Integrity Monitoring and Enforcement Group (PNP-IMEG) for their involvement in the operations of ‘swertres,’ an illegal numbers’ game in the city on Sunday evening, PNP-IMEG director, Colonel Ronald O. Lee announced yesterday.

In a report to PNP chief, General Archie Francisco F. Gamboa, the official identified the suspects as Police Staff Sergeant Carlito Tinoy, a 41-year-old member of the PRO7’s 701st Regional Mobile Force Battalion 7 residing in Sitio Sudlon, Lahug, Cebu City and his pal Joven Igam, 42, of Sitio Upper Kalunasan, Cebu City.

“We have arrested a police non-commissioned officer who has been the subject of persistent reports regarding his involvement in the rampant operations of ‘swertres,’ a banned numbers’ game in his neighborhood despite the order of Gen. Gamboa to stop all forms of illegal gambling activities and the full implementation of the ‘No-Take Policy’ across the country,” Lee said.
