A STRING of anti-narcotics operations in Central Visayas over the weekend resulted in the killing of an armed drug suspect, the arrest of 12 others and the seizure of over 2.2 kilograms of shabu worth nearly P15.3 million, Police Regional Office 7 director, Chief Superintendent Debold M. Sinas announced yesterday.
“We’re stepping-up our anti-drug operations in the whole of Central Visayas to arrest the presence of shabu being smuggled into the region specifically in Cebu City mostly by drug syndicates based in Manila,” said Sinas.
Gunned down in a buy-bust operation in Talisay City in Cebu which ended up in a gunbattle was Rolando Valdez alias ‘Dogyot,’ a resident of Barangay Bulacao in the same city, the official said.
According to Sinas, the suspect had just sold a packet of shabu to an undercover officer in Sitio Mananga 11 in Bgy. Tabunok in Talisay City past 4 a.m. Saturday when he sensed he was dealing with a police-poseur and tried to shoot the officer.
Back-up operatives returned fire killing the suspect on the spot. Sinas said that members of the Talisay City Police Station led by Supt. Marlu Conag conducted the sting amid confirmed reports that the suspect is engaged in illegal drug trafficking in his neighborhood.
A team of local drug enforcement officers led by Chief Inspector Ardioleto Cabagnot launched the sting which targeted the suspect who was also described as a notorious car thief and ‘Akyat-Bahay’ gang member in the city. Sinas said that the slain suspect is also wanted for shooting a local police anti-narcotics agent last October. He added that Valdez was also shot and wounded by a rival gang member in the city last month and was confined in a local hospital where he ran away without settling his bills after undergoing treatment.
Two other suspects identified as Samuel Belarmino,34; and Pamela Gonzales,43, were arrested during a buy-bust operation in Sitio Larema, Bgy. Mambaling in Cebu City 7:30 p.m. Saturday. Recovered from the suspects were 85 grams of shabu valued at P578,000 and the marked money they received from an undercover agent.
Sinas said that a cohort of the two suspects identified as Jennier Roxas is still being hunted.
Another two suspects identified as Danilo de la Cerna and Giovani Canazares, both residents of Cebu City were arrested in a sting in All Seasons II in Bgy. Cogon 7:35 p.m. Saturday conducted by a team of policemen led by Chief Inspector Regino Maramag.
Recovered from the suspects’ possession were five plastic packets containing around two kilograms of the so-called ‘poor man’s cocaine’ valued at P13.6 million.
Another operation in Ma. Gochan Street in Bgy. Mambaling, Cebu City led in the arrest of Limuel Canizares alias ‘Paping,’ a 28-year old local resident after he sold shabu to a poseur. Seized from the suspect’s possession were 14 plastic sachets containing nearly 26 grams of suspected shabu worth P175,000, said Cebu City police director, Senior Supt. Royina Marzan.
Two other suspects identified as Ricky Rivas,40; and Child Jay Cabellon,21, were arrested in an entrapment operation in C. Padilla Street in Bgy. Duljo Fatima in Cebu City 11:30 a.m. last Friday.
