CIDG9 official apologizes to Davao writer over wrong arrest

THE head of the 9th Regional Criminal Investigation and Detection Unit has made an official apology to Davao City-based columnist Fidelina Margarita Valle and her family for arresting the latter in what has turned out to be a case of a mistaken identity.

In a statement, Colonel Tom Tuzon apologized to Valle, a columnist for Davao Today for the ‘harrowing experience’ she suffered from the time she was arrested at the Laguindingan Airport in Cagayan de Oro City and brought to the CIDG field office in Pagadian City in Zamboanga del Sur where she was eventually released after being held for more than nine hours.

“Due to uncertainties and less than 100% assurance of your identity from our informant, we have brought you to CIDG Office, Pagadian City that caused you unnecessary anxiety. We do realize we should have heeded your call regarding your identity from the start and have released you at the airport,” Tuzon said in his official statement.

“We sincerely request your understanding since that the information given to our detective on the ground is already a warrant of arrest and that the identity of the person on the warrant is only known to the complainant himself,” he added.

Journal Group sources said Tuzon was castigated by top Philippine National Police Criminal Investigation and Detection Group officials following the highly-embarrassing incident.
