HEAVY fighting erupted between a group of policemen and New People’s Army guerrillas in San Guillermo, Isabela on Thursday resulting to the killing of one cop and injuries to three others, officials said yesterday.
Patrolman Henry Gayaman of the PRO2’s Regional Mobile Force Battalion 2 was shot during the clash with the heavily-armed rebels and died on the spot. His colleagues identified as Patrolmen Alfred Taliano, Stephen Olosan and Eddie Boy Vinasoy were also wounded and taken to the hospital for treatment of gunshot wounds.
Police Regional Office 2 director, Brigadier General Angelito A. Casimiro yesterday visited the wake of Patrolman Gayaman in Aglipay, Quirino and offered his and the Cagayan Valley police’s deepest sympathies to the family of the hero-cop.
Casimiro conferred the posthumous Medalya ng Kadakilaan or Philippine National Police Heroism Medal on the slain cop and handed financial assistance to the family of the latter.
He also assured that all financial assistance from the Office of the President, Public Safety Mutual Benefit Fund Inc., the PNP headed by Lieutenant General Archie Francisco F. Gamboa and the National Police Commission will be given to the family of Gayaman.
Casimiro also visited the wounded policemen at the United Doctors Medical Center in Cauayan City in Isabela and conferred to them the Medalya ng Sugatang Magiting of PNP Wounded Personnel Medal. He also gave financial assistance to the three who displayed gallantry in action during the clash with the leftist gunmen.
