A POLICE corporal was killed in a ‘misencounter’ with undercover Cebu police officers who were conducting follow-up operations to arrest the killers of another cop last Tuesday, a Police Regional Office 7 report said yesterday.
Cpl. Feliciano Yballe, a member of the Mobile Force Company of the Cebu City Police Office reportedly fired shots at operatives of the Cebu Police Provincial Office (PPO) who went to his house in Barangay Sin-sin, Cebu City past 1 a.m. Wednesday.
The Cebu PPO officers led by Lieutenant Colonel Rey Natnat were forced to return fire after they were met with gunshots while they were knocking at the door of Yballe. The policeman died while being taken to the Cebu City Medical Center.
According to PRO7 director, Brigadier General Debold M. Sinas, the ‘misencounter’ took place while the Cebu PPO officers were conducting follow-up operations to arrest the gunmen who killed Staff Sergeant Junard Cinco around 8:10 a.m. last Tuesday in Bgy. Media Once in Toledo City, Cebu.
He said that the Cebu PPO received reports that the assassins withdrew towards Bgy. Sin-sin after killing Cinco prompting them to look for policemen residing in the same area hoping those officers can provide them some information that would lead to the capture of the cop-killers.
Sinas said that the Cebu policemen were on a mission to ask Cpl. Yballe to act as their ‘guide’ in their conduct of follow-up operations in the area when tragedy struck.
