January 21, 2019

AGENTS of the Police Regional Office 7 arrested six suspected big-time drug personalities and seized over P10 million worth of shabu in a string of anti-narcotics operations in Central Visayas, PRO7 director Chief Supt. Debold Sinas said yesterday.

One of the suspects,  Lita Montillano, a 43-year-old mother of four, yielded an estimated P8.5 million worth of the “poor man’s cocaine.”

Local policemen raided Montillano’s house in Camella Homes, Bgy. Lawaan in Talisay City, Cebu at 9:30 a.m. last Saturday.

Members of the Cebu Police Provincial Office’s Drug Enforcement Unit headed by Sr. Insp. Alejandro Batobalonos raided the suspect’s house on the strength of a search warrant for violation of Republic Act 9165 or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002.

The raiders discovered around 1.25 kilograms of shabu worth P8.5 million in a box wrapped with masking tape and placed on top of a refrigerator at the dining area of the Montillano’s house.

Sinas said that a background check revealed that Montillano’s live-in partner, Henry Tabalen, was arrested by members of the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency for an illegal drugs case in 2016 and is being held at the Cebu City Jail.

Another suspect, Grace Sarmiento, a 52-year-old widow residing in Sitio San Roque in Bgy. Luz, Cebu City, was arrested in a sting at Sitio Borbajo in Bgy. Talamban at 8:30 p.m. last Friday.

Recovered from the suspect were 10 plastic sachets containing about 200 grams of shabu worth P1.3 million and the buy-bust money.

Another operation in Sitio Lahing-Lahing in Bgy. Mabolo in Cebu City at 12:30 a.m. yesterday led to the arrest of Arnold Espe alias “Insik,” 42, a resident of Upper Simala in Sibonga, Cebu.

Members of the Cebu City DEU and the PNP Drug Enforcement Unit arrested the suspect  after he sold an estimated P600,000 worth of shabu to an undercover officer.

In Villa Bulsita in Bgy. Bulacao, Cebu City,  an entrapment operation last Tuesday resulted in the arrest of Roycenel Joecyl Gimenez alias “Arjie,” 27, after he sold shabu to an undercover officer.

In Purok 3 in Bgy. Kamputhaw, also in Cebu City, local policemen last Saturday arrested Marissa Rossel, 35, in an entrapment operation which yielded around 20 grams of shabu worth P136,000.

Sinas said that Rossel’s live-in partner, Jerun Caballero,25, managed to escape.

The official said that Caballero exchanged fire with lawmen arresting  him after the drug deal was consummated and managed to flee on foot.

Rossel was arrested for conspiring with her live-in partner to sell drugs to an officer.

Recovered during the sting were 33 heat-sealed plastic sachets containing the drugs, a marked P500 bill, two caliber .45 magazines and two spent .45 cartridges fired by the escaped suspect.

In Sitio Bugnay II in Bgy. Labangon, Cebu City, another entrapment operation conducted by members of the Cebu City Police Station 10 led by Chief Inspector Keith Allen Andaya led to the arrest of Mark Anthony Sabellano,24.

Recovered from the suspect were 12 plastic sachets containing about 20 grams of shabu worth P136,000, two marked P100 bills paid to him by a poseur and different bills worth P500 believed to be part of his drug proceeds.

All arrested suspects are facing non-bailable charges for violation of RA 9165 or The Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002.
