Cops slay Cagayan pusher

AN armed drug trafficking suspect in Cagayan Valley was killed in a gunbattle with undercover officers during a buy-bust operation which ended in a shootout in Solana town on Friday, Police Regional Office 2 director, Brigadier General Jose Mario M. Espino said yesterday.

Suspect Joel Datul, a resident of Barangay Pallua Sur in Tuguegarao City had just sold a packet of shabu to a plainclothes officer at 8:45 p.m. Friday in Solana when he sensed the ongoing buy-bust operation and tried to shoot the poseur.

The arresting officer returned fire hitting Datul who was pronounced dead upon arrival in a local hospital by an attending physician.

Espino said that recoverd from the slain suspect’s possession were one chamber-loaded caliber .38 Taurus revolver with three live ammunition, two heat-sealed plastic sachets containing suspected shabu and the boodle money topped by a marked P500 bill.

The official said that a companion of the slain suspect managed to escape on board a motorcycle and is still being hunted as of press time.
