Cotabato police chief shot dead

THE chief of the Carmen Municipal Police Station in North Cotabato was shot dead by a gunman he and his men were pursuing in connection with the killing of a foreigner in the area Tuesday morning, Police Regional Office 12 director, Brigadier General Michael John F. Dubria said.

Major Joan Resurreccion suffered gunshot wounds in the body and died while being taken to a hospital, said the official.

Initial investigation showed the police chief and his men responded to a shooting incident in Poblacion, Carmen where an unnamed foreign national was reportedly killed.

During the hot pursuit operation, the still unidentified suspect opened fire at the officers as he was about to be cornered in Quarry Site, Sitio Tawan-Tawan hitting the police officer.

The incident is still being investigated as of press time, Dubria said.
