CV mayor’s son jailed for drugs

A SON of Gonzaga, Cagayan Mayor Marilyn Pentecostes who is included in President Duterte’s drug list was arrested by combined agents of the Police Regional Office 2 and the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency in a buy-bust operation in Tuguegarao City last Sunday, PRO2 director, Brigadier General Jose Mario M. Espino announced yesterday.

Jonji Sumer Pentecostes, a 44-year old ‘high-value’ drug target included in President Duterte and PDEA’s most wanted list of drug traffickers is now facing charges for sale and possession of dangerous drugs under Republic Act 9165 or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002, the official said.

According to Espino, the young Pentecostes, a known breeder of fighting cocks in Cagayan residing in Barangay Paradise, Gonzaga municipality yielded one heat-sealed plastic sachet containing some P5,000 worth of suspected shabu and two marked P1,000 bills paid to him by an undercover officer during the entrapment operation inside the Vargas Cockpit Arena in Zone 1, Barangay Pengue Ruyu, Tuguegarao at City 6:30 a.m. Sunday.

Espino said  members of the Cagayan Police Provincial Office and the Tugeugarao City Police Station Drug Enforcement Units under Colonel Ignacio Cumigad with the assistance of the PDEA Regional Office 2 and the PNP Regional Intelligence Unit 2 conducted the sting to arrest the mayor’s son.

PDEA chair, Director General Aaron N. Aquino described the arrested suspect as a leader of a local drug group and son of the newly-elected Gonzaga mayor.

Aquino said PDEA agents also arrested the suspect four years ago on drug charges but he was acquitted by the court due to technicalities.
