Dismissed Vice Mayor can run

February 16, 2019

CABANATUAN CITY -- Dismissed Cabanatuan City Vice Mayor Emmanuel Antonio “Doc Anthony” Umali is eligible to run for vice governor of Nueva Ecija in this May’s midterm polls, according to the Commission on Elections.

This after the poll body’s Second Division junked the petition for disqualification filed against the former vice mayor by his vice gubernatorial rival, provincial board member Edward Thomas F. Joson for lack of merit.

The 12-page decision which was promulgated on February 11, 2019, was unanimously approved by the three-man member of the poll body’s Second Division. Presiding Commissioner Luie Tito F. Guia wrote the resolution and concurred by Commissioners Socorro B. Inting and Antonio T. Kho Jr.

The poll body said the other matters raised by Joson in his petition, including allegations that Umali made a material misrepresentation when he filed his certificate of candidacy as vice governor, deserve scant consideration.

Joson’s petition stemmed from a March 7, 2018 Ombudsman order which dismissed Umali and 10 others after finding them guilty of the administrative offenses of grave misconduct, abuse of authority and conduct prejudicial to the best interest of the service.

Umali complied after being served with the said dismissal order on July 4 last year.
