DoJ forms special team to probe Kidapawan broadcaster’s slaying

July 12, 2019

JUSTICE Secretary Menardo Guevarra yesterday ordered the creation of a special investigating team to probe the murder of radio anchor Eduardo “Ed” Dizon in Kidapawan City on Wednesday night.

“As chair of the Presidential Task Force on Media Violence, I have given instructions for the creation of a special investigating team to inquire into the killing of Eduardo Dizon and to file appropriate charges against the perpetrators thereof,” Guevarra said.

“Our teams are headed by prosecutors in the field who assist in case build-up, and they coordinate actively with local law enforcement agents including the NBI (National Bureau of Investigation),” Guevarra added.

On Wednesday, unidentified assailants shot and killed Dizon, news anchor of 97.5 Brigada News FM Kidapawan.

Dizon was driving home to Tejada Subdivision in Makilala town after hosting his “Tira Brigada” program when two men on a motorcycle opened fire on him on Quezon Boulevard near the Colegio de Kidapawan around 10:35 p.m. on Wednesday.

Dizon managed to steer his car to the side of the road but died from five gunshot wounds.

The Presidential Task Force on Media Security (PTFoMS) strongly condemned the murder of Dizon.

Usec Joel Sy Egco, executive director of the PTFoMS, will fly to Kidapawan City to meet and personally condole with the family and friends of the victim.

Egco will also seek a case conference with Kidapawan City Police Station OIC Lt. Col. Ma. Joyce Raro Birrey and probers for the speedy resolution of the Dizon slaying.

The PTFoMS presumes any media killing is work-related until further investigation proves otherwise.
