Drug dealer killed, 9 others held in Bicol

A STRING of anti-narcotics operations in Bicol region this week resulted in the killing of an armed suspect in a gunbattle in Guinobatan, Albay and the arrest of nine others, Police Regional Office 5 director, Brigadier General Anthony S. Alcañeses told People’s Tonight yesterday.

Suspect Rolando Nieves, a 35-year old resident of Barangay Upper Binogsacan in Guinobatan municipality and his cohort Manuel Marasigan Jr. alias ‘Kalbo’ traded shots with members of the Albay Police Provincial Office and the Guinobatan Municipal Police Station about to arrest them in Purok 1, Bgy. Inascan past 4 p.m. last Monday, said the Bicol police chief.

Alcañeses said the officers led by Lieutenant Colonel Dennis Balla and Major Domingo Tapel Jr. were forced to return fire on the two suspects who are both included in the drug watch list of the Bicol police hitting Nieves.

The suspect died while being taken to a hospital in Ligao City while Marasigan managed to flee leaving behind his firearm and is still being hunted as of press time.

Recovered during the anti-narcotics operation were one caliber .357 Magnum revolver without serial number with six bullets, a cal. .38 revolver with a spent cartridge and five live ammunition,  six heat-sealed plastic sachets containing suspected shabu and the boodle money topped by a marked P1,000 bill which were paid to the suspects by an undercover officer.

Alcañeses also announced the arrest of Jovelyn Rivera alias ‘Daving,’ a 28-year old vendor; Loreto Morano,44; and Joker Salazar,30, all residents of Bgy. Mabolo, Naga City during a buy-bust operation in Zone 3 of the same barangay past 6 p.m. Monday.

Morano is included in the watch list of the local police, the official said.

Members of the Naga City Police Office Drug Enforcement Unit led by Major Edgar Butch Moraleda, the PRO5 Regional Drug Enforcement Unit headed by Maj. Aldrin Orquita and the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency Region 5 and the Army’s 9th Infantry Division were involved in the operation, the Bicol police chief said.

Recovered from the suspects were two plastic sachets containing an estimated P56,000 worth of the so-called ‘poor man’s cocaine’ and the boodle money topped by a marked P500 bill.

Another anti-narcotics operation in Bgy. Triangulo, Naga City conducted by combined agents of the PDEA and the local police led in the arrest of Alan Adan,47, after a search of his house resulted in the recovery of 12 plastic sachets containing around 15 grams of suspected shabu worth P102,000.

Alcañeses said a 5th suspect identified as Michael Soliman,45, a resident of Purok 4, Bgy. Lag-on in Daet, Camarines Norte was arrested in a buy-bust operation shortly after noon Tuesday.

Officers recovered six plastic sachets containing some P3,000 worth of suspected shabu and a marked P500 bill from the suspect.

On the other hand, Annalyn Velasco,41, a resident of Zone 5, Bgy. Anislag in Daraga, Albay who is included in the top drug list of the PDEA Region 5 was arrested in a buy-bust operation in Bgy. Namantao Tuesday. The suspect yielded three sachets of shabu and the boodle money topped by a marked P500 bill.

Another identified as Jonathan Toledo, a 30-year old tattoo artist from Bgy. Concepcion in Virac, Catanduanes was arrested in a sting in Bgy. Gogon Sirangan past 6 p.m. Tuesday.

Recovered from the suspect were 20 plastic sachets containing suspected shabu and the boodle money topped by a marked P500 bill.

On the other hand, suspect Joel Nolasco,27, a jobless resident of Bgy. Sta. Rosa del Norte in Pasacao, Camarines Sur was arrested after he sold P500 worth of shabu to a poseur in Bgy. San Cirilo before 10 p.m. Tuesday.

The suspect also yielded 25 plastic sachets containing the illegal drugs when frisked.

Alcañeses said another suspect identified as Dioscoro Alvaro Jr.,41, a resident of Zone 6, Sto. Domingo, Iriga City, Camarines Sur was arrested on the strength of a warrant for illegal possession of firearms issued by a local court. The suspect yielded two plastic sachets containing shabu during a routine search.

Another identified as Victor Marasigan Jr. of Bgy. Gabi, Sipocot, Camarines Sur was arrested in a sting in Bgy. Colacling in Lupi municipality on Monday. The suspect yielded four plastic sachets containing illegal drugs and a marked P500 bill.
