Drug dealer killed, cop hurt in S. Kudarat sting

AN anti-narcotics operation in Lebak, Sultan Kudarat on Wednesday turned bloody after the suspect engaged officers in a gunbattle which resulted to his killing and injuries to one of the lawman, Police Regional Office 12 director, Brigadier General Alfred S. Corpus said yesterday.

Killed in the gunbattle was Johari Kadil, a resident of Barangay Poblacion 3 in Lebak town while wounded was Police Chief Master Sergeant Arden Lanasa who was shot by the suspect in the right leg.

According to Corpus, the suspect had just sold shabu to an undercover officer in Road Purok Apitong 2 in Bgy. Poblacion 3 around 7:30 a.m. Wednesday when he sensed the presence of plainclothes officers in the area and immediately shot Lanasa.

The other officers returned fire hitting the suspect who died while being taken to the Lebak Family Doctor’s Hospital. The wounded policeman was brought to the Sultan Kudarat District Hospital where he has been listed in stable condition.

Corpus said that recovered from the possession of the slain suspect were nine heat-sealed plastic sachets containing shabu, a chamber-loaded caliber .45 pistol with a magazine containing four live ammunition, a spare magazine with five bullets and the marked P500 bill paid to him by the poseur.
