AN armed drug trafficker was killed in a shootout with an undercover officer in Lallo, Cagayan late evening Monday, Police Regional Office 2 director, Brigadier General Crizaldo O. Nieves reported yesterday.

According to the official, suspect Richard Aguirre, a jobless resident of Barangay Lannig in Solana municipality had just sold a packet of shabu to Staff Sergeant Allen Olivas when he sensed the ongoing entrapment operation and shot the poseur in the chest.

The policeman who was wearing a bullet-proof vest fell on the ground but managed to fire back at the suspect who died while being taken to a local hospital.

Citing a report from Cagayan Police Provincial Office director, Colonel Ariel N. Quilang, the official said the firefight took place in Bgy. Alaguia in Lallo municipality at 10:30 p.m. Monday.

It turned out that the suspect and a still unidentified cohort who was driving a motorcycle conspired to sell shabu to the poseur.

However, they apparently sensed the ongoing sting and became agitated until Aguirre pulled out a concealed firearm and shot the policeman.

A loaded firearm, a packet of shabu and the marked money were recovered from the slain suspect’s possession by local policemen led by Major Reymond Asistores, said Nieves.

The still unidentified suspect is still being hunted as of press time, he added.
