SAN ISIDRO, Nueva Ecija -- Another drug suspect was added to the long list of slain armed drug traffickers who chose to fight it out with undercover operatives during the conduct of anti-drug stings in Nueva Ecija.
In Bgy. Poblacion here, police identified the slain suspect as tricycle driver Ferdinand Rapanot, 54, alias Poktong, of Bgy. Quezon District, Cabanatuan City.
The suspect allegedly engaged members of the local police anti-drug enforcement team in a brief encounter after consummating a drug deal at General De Jesus St. at 4:45 a.m. Friday.
Provincial police head Col. Leon Victor Rosete said Rapanot apparently sensed the presence of undercover lawmen in the area and immediately pulled out his cal.9mm pistol and fired at them.
This triggered a shootout which led to his instantaneous death.
Probers recovered at the clash site the suspect’s gun, his black Kawasaki Bajaj tricycle and a plastic sachet containing shabu.
