Dumaguete jail raid yields drugs, phones, cash

A SURPRISE inspection of the male dormitory of the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology-run Dumaguete City Jail in Negros Oriental on Monday led in the confiscation of a cache of drugs, cell phones and P210,900 in different denominations, Police Regional Office 7 director, Chief Superintendent Debold M. Sinas reported yesterday.

The official said that members of the Dumaguete City Police Station, a Coast Guard K-9 Unit, the local Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency and the BJMP conducted the Oplan: Greyhound inside the jail’s male dormitory at 6:30 a.m. Monday in line with their effort to arrest the presence of illegal drugs and other contrabands inside prison facilities.

Sinas said that the raiders led by Supt. Gregorio Galsim, Senior Inspector Van Joel Tingson and Jail Chief Inspector Pricel Arevalo recovered a total of 179 heat-sealed plastic sachets containing an estimated P115 grams of suspected shabu valued at P782,000, several plastic sachets containing suspected shabu residue, several pieces of empty plastic sachets and  a digital weighing scale during the raid.

Also confiscated during the operation were four cigarette packs, a Samsung mobile phone, five phone keypads, a Globe pocket wi-fi, seven disposable lighters, assorted bladed and pointed weapons and the P210,900 in different denominations.
