Ecija gov mulls total lockdown

CABANATUAN CITY – Nueva Ecija Gov. Aurelio M. Umali yesterday said he is mulling over putting the entire province under total lockdown amid the rising number of confirmed positive COVID-19 cases and PUI-related deaths which have risen to 15 cases and six, respectively.

The governor was reacting to a query posed by a tv texter-listener who brought up the idea of imposing a total lockdown amid the enhanced community quarantine measures that were earlier implemented to control the spread of the killer virus.

From the six positive COVID-19 cases that were reported last Thursday, the record now stands at 15, with the addition of nine new cases, said Umali.

Of the 15, six coronavirus cases originated from Gapan City, four from Cabanatuan, and one case each occurring in the towns of San Isidro, General Natividad, Licab, Laur and San Antonio.

Of the nine new positive cases, five are in the medical profession who were infected via local transmission.

The six PUI-registered deaths were recorded by the Department of Health in Gapan City, and the towns of Guimba, General Tinio, San Isidro, Licab and San Antonio.

In San Antonio, Mayor Arvin C. Salonga ordered a total lockdown of Bgy. Tikiw where a PUI died and one of the 15 positive case of COVID-19 cases was earlier detected.
