Ecija mayor orders cops to resolve indiscriminate firing vs DSWD head

SAN ANTONIO, Nueva Ecija – Mayor Arvin C. Salonga wants the police to resolve quickly the indiscriminate firing and stone-throwing incidents that allegedly targetted the house of a municipal social welfare and development officer in Bgy. Luyos here on Friday.

Salonga strongly condemned the supposed attack at the house of MSWD officer Charity Mae Baynosa as he ordered the police led by Major Roderick Corpuz to get to the bottom of the case and immediately identify and arrest the perpetrator.

“Ginagawa lamang niya bilang DSWD officer ang kanyang tungkulin kaya inaatasan natin ang kapulisan para sa malalim na imbestigasyon at panagutin sa batas ang may kagagawan nito,” the Mayor said.

Salonga's statements came as the DSWD Region 3 Office issued a separate statement slamming the same act of harassment allegedly committed against their personnel on the ground.

"Mariing kinukundena ng DSWD Region 3 ang anumang marahas na pamamaraan ng pagpapaabot ng hinaing katulad ng nangyari sa MSWDO ng San Antonio," said Reinier Grospe, regional information officer.

"Mahalagang malaman ng mamamayan na ang DSWD at ang LGUs ay nagpapatupad lamang ng programang naayon sa batas na pinirmahan ni Pangulong Rodrigo Duterte," he added.

Meanwhile, this reporter tried to contact Baynosa by phone or text messages to get her side of the story but she was not responding.

Corpuz said the alleged indiscriminate firing and stoning incidents occurred at 1:30 a.m. Friday and was perpetrated by an unidentified man armed with a cal. 45 pistol.

The suspect fired four times before escaping on foot with probers recovering four empty slugs at the crime scene shortly after the shooting.

It was not immediately known however what possibly triggered the said harassment against the MSWD officer.
