SAN Antonio, Nueva Ecija -- The Special Investigation Task Group looking at the October 19 cold-blooded murder of councilor bet Allan Joson has reportedly identified a “person of interest” in the said one-week old case.
SITG-Joson head Supt. Angel Bondoc, Nueva Ecija deputy provincial director for operations, bared this development yesterday as he said that they are still looking at two possible motives behind the killing -- politics and personal.
“May person of interest na po tayo. Two motives, politics at personal po,” Bondoc said in his text message to this reporter yesterday.
The SITG was ordered created by newly-installed acting provincial police director Senior Supt. Leon Victor Z. Rosete shortly after the killing of Joson last Friday.
The 42-year-old Joson was standing a few meters from his house when he was attacked by a lone gunman riding a motorcycle who shot him at point-blank range, causing his instantaneous death at 4:25 p.m.
His killing occurred two days after he filed his certificate of candidacy for councilor for the 2019 midterm polls on Wednesday.
Joson, of Purok 3, Bgy. Julo, was a former number one town councilor before losing in the 2016 vice mayoral race.
Earlier, Mayor Arvin C. Salonga gave a P200,000 bounty for any information that could lead to the early resolution of the case and the arrest of the killer.
Salonga, who is running unopposed in the 2019 mayoral race, called for a stop to the spread of lies, innuendos and false news about the incident.
At the same time, he also appealed for a stop to this type of violence for these are but the hallmarks of the old-fashioned way of so-called “traditional politics.”
The SITG has reportedly in their possession the cartographic sketch of the gunman after being able to gather the CCTV footages along the escape route of the suspect.
