Ecija stings: 2 dead, 2 held

CABANATUAN CITY -- Four suspected drug pushers were neutralized while four others were nabbed during separate sting operations conducted by the police in Nueva Ecija yesterday and Wednesday.

In this city, killed was Felipe Malubay, of Bgy. D. S. Garcia, who resisted arrest and engaged anti-drug operatives in a gunfight in San Antonio Street, Bgy. Kapitan Pepe Subd. at 1:40 a.m. yesterday.

City police head Lt. Col. Ponciano Zafra said he was among those listed in the station’s drug watchlist.

In Quezon town, Police Captain Melchor Pereja identified the slain drug suspect as Dennis Serrano of Sto. Domingo.

During the buy-bust that led to an armed confrontation, Pereja said the drug poseur-buyer, who was wearing a bullet-proof vest, was unhurt after being hit twice in the body by the suspect.

The other two suspects who were killed in separate clashes with the police in Gabaldon and Cuyapo towns, respectively were identified as Elmer Viazon, alias Miming, of Bgy. San Nicolas, Gapan City and Mario Reyes, of Bgy. San Juan ACCFA, this city.

Provincial police head Police Colonel Leon Victor Z. Rosete identified those four arrested as: Crisanto Reyes, 38, of Bgy. San Roque, Bongabon; Henry Ugot, 51, of Bgy. Puncan, Carranglan; Jayson Reyes, 33, alias Pula, of Bgy. Tabon, San Isidro; and Mark Anthony Elvambuena, 26, of Bgy. Mallorca, San Leonardo, Nueva Ecija.
