Ecija stings: 2 neutralized

CABANATUAN CITY -- An alleged member of a carnapping syndicate who also had links to drug-pushing and another suspected drug peddler were neutralized in this city and in Talavera yesterday and Sunday.

Police Lt. Col. Ponciano B. Zafra, Cabanatuan police head, identified the slain suspect as Jessie Caralde, of Sarenas Street, Bgy. Sangitan West here.

He was killed in a buy-bust operation that turned into an armed encounter along Circumferential Road in Bgy. Barrera at 1:50 a.m. yesterday. The operation was conducted by a drug enforcement team led by Police Capt. Ronan James Eblahan.

Zafra tagged him as a member of the notorious Cueto group allegedly involved in several carnapping and motorcycle theft incidents. Zafra said he was also among those listed as a drug personality in the police watch-list.

During the drug transaction, Zafra said the suspect suddenly drew his gun and fired at the police poseur-buyer but missed. This triggered a gunfight resulting in his instantaneous death.

Recovered from the encounter site were a cal.45 pistol, P500 in marked money, eight plastic sachets containing shabu, and the suspect’s Kawasaki Bajaj tricycle.

In Talavera, killed was Gilbert Mamaed, of Bgy. San Ricardo.

Town police head, Police Lt. Col. Alexie Desamito said the suspect was neutralized after he resisted arrest and engaged undercover anti-illegal drugs operatives in a gunfight shortly after transacting drugs with a police poseur-buyer along the Pinagpanaan-Rizal-Pantabangan junction road in Bgy. Pinagpanaan at 4:50 a.m. Sunday.
