Espino orders hunt for village chief’s killer

POLICE Regional Office 2 director, Brigadier General Jose Mario M. Espino yesterday ordered an intensified hunt for the gunman who shot and killed a barangay captain in Tuao, Cagayan and wounded a village ‘tanod’ before escaping on foot.

The official said he wants result in the hunt for the suspect identified as Ronald Gannaban, a resident of Bgy. Iluru Sur in Rizal, Cagayan who has been charged with murder and frustrated murder before Cagayan Provincial Prosecutor Rodolfo Banato Jr. last Monday.

The suspect was identified as the man who shot Orlino Gannaban, the chairman of Bgy. Lalayug in Tuao town and wounded ‘tanod’ Espidion Zingabo’ for still unknown reasons around 3:30 p.m. last May 27. The victims were about to go home on board a motorcycle when they were shot repeatedly.

The village chief who is not in anyway related to the gunman sustained multiple gunshot wounds in the body and died on the spot while Zingabo was taken to the Tuao District Hospital for treatment.

Espino said he has instructed Cagayan Police Provincial Office director, Colonel Ignacio Cumigad to field more tracker teams that will hunt for the killer. “It’s either he surrender because of an all-out pressure or be captured or even killed in case he opts to fight it out with our men since he is considered armed and dangerous,” the Cagayan Valley police director said.
