Ex-solon faces raps for protecting shabu lab in Catanduanes town

A FORMER congressman was facing charges of violation of Republic Act 9165 or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act for allegedly protecting a mega shabu laboratory in Virac, Catanduanes.

Charged before the Department of Justice (DoJ) was former Congressman Cesar V. Sarmiento of Barangay Igang, Virac, Catanduanes.

The charges were filed by Virac Municipal Police Station Chief of Police Major Bon Billy David Timuat and a certain Ernesto Besmonte Tabor alias Entoy before the office of Prosecutor General Benedicto Malcontento in Department of Justice (DoJ) in Ermita, Manila.

The complaint stem-med in a  shabu  mega laboratory raided by elements of Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) sometime in November 2016 in Bgy. Palta Small, Virac, Catanduanes.

The said shabu laboratory was allegedly maintained by Atty. Eric Isidro who was a former chief of Anti-Narcotics Division of the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI).

Isidro was already facing charges regarding his involvement in illegal drugs.

In an affidavit issued by a witness identified as alias Entoy, he claimed that he only came out now to share his knowledge regarding the former congressman’s involvement in illegal drugs because of fear.

He claimed he personally delivered  P10,000,000 to the house of  the former solon in Barangay Igang, Virac, Catanduanes twice.

The said amount served as protection money for the shabu laboratory.

He said the first delivery was sometime in April 2016 before the election and the second one was in August 2016.
