Extreme heat sends 88 students to hospitals in Batangas

June 21, 2019

EIGHTY-eight students from the Bauan Technical High School in Bauan, Batangas were rushed to different hospitals after fainting allegedly due to very hot weather.

Bauan Mayor Bojie Casapao said the students fainted after attending an earthquake drill in the school.

According to town police chief Col. Joemar Labiniano, the students participated in the nationwide simultaneous earthquake drill at 2 p.m. on Thursday.

Due to intense heat, around 60 students felt dizzy.

An ambulance arrived and brought the students to the Bauan Doctors Hospital and Bauan General Hospital.

Yesterday, 28 more high school students fainted and were also rushed to the hospital.

Authorities have yet to confirm if the “heat wave” was related to the fainting of the students or caused by  other reasons.

Labiano said most of the children who were rushed to the hospitals were sent home after being declared out of danger.

School officials temporarily suspended classes yesterday as a result of the incident.
