STA. ROSA, Nueva Ecija -- Police conducting enhanced quarantine checkpoints here on Monday night nabbed two men after intercepting several boxes of fake cigarettes they were transporting in an Isuzu van with a note posted on its front windshield saying "Do Not Delay: Onion and Vegetables Dealer."
Town police head Major Steven Dela Cruz identified those two nabbed as Joseph Salvatierra, 39, of Bgy. San Agustin, Sto. Domingo; and Jason Dizon, 27, of Bgy. Andal Alino, Talavera, Nueva Ecija.
The duo were aboard an Isuzu FB van with plate number RJN-266 when they were flagged down at an ECQ control point in Bgy. Luna at 9:30 p.m.
During inspection, Dela Cruz said they found 13 boxes or 650 rims of alleged fake WIN New Light cigarettes that were partially covered with sacks of red onions inside the van.
Police MSgt. Freddie Sevilla, case investigator said the suspects were bound for Talavera to deliver the illegal cargo when they were intercepted.
"Hindi sila sa araw kundi sa gabi sila bumiyahe, dahil puslit ang kargamento nila," Sevilla said.
Police said the two suspects and the seized contraband were brought to the police station for proper disposition while appropriate criminal charges were being prepared for filing against them.
