A FAMILY outing turned into a nightmare when a passenger jeepney collided with a dump truck in an accident that killed five persons and injured 16 others the other day in Libmanan, Camarines Sur.

The fatalities were identified as jeepney driver Jorge Montanez and passengers Marites Montanez, 53, and minors Jhian Co, Sneizer Co and Abegail Jimeno.

Taken to the hospital for treatment were  Diana Binaday, 46; Joss Binaday, 9; Kim Marian Montañez, 7, Reden Montañez, Marites Montañez, Joy Cristy Bertulano, Edna Gemino, Mark Neil Montañez, 8; AJ Medrano, 10; Kris Bertolano, Renz Andrei Jimeno, 11; Charlize Jimeno, 9; Jhenize Co, 8; Terisa Jemino, Christine Co  and Mardin Montañez.

Reports reaching Camp Crame said the accident occurred at around 4 p.m. along Maharlika Highway, Barangay Bikal, Libmanan, Camarines Sur.

The victims were onboard the jeepney from an outing  and on their way home to the municipality of Lupi when their vehicle collided with the speeding dump truck.

Due to the collision’s impact, five of the passengers died on the spot while 16 others sustained severe injuries.

The  driver of the dump truck, Noel Amot, 35, turned himself to local police for proper disposition.

Amot was facing charges of reckless imprudence  resulting to multiple homicide, serious physical injuries  and damage to properties.
