Farmers’ group leader jailed for grenade possession

POLICE raided yesterday the house of the leader of a militant farmer’s group in Negros Oriental and arrested him for illegal possesion of a grenade, the Police Regional Office 7 said.

The house of Nemrod Amper Balansag, the chairman of the Kilusang Magbubukid chapter in Mabinay, Negros Oriental in Sitio Casay, Barangay Bagtik, was raided by members of the 2nd Provincial Mobile Force Company of the Negros Oriental Police Provincial Office around 5:35 a.m. yesterday based on a search warrant issued by Judge Rosario Carriaga of the Bais City Regional Trial Court Branch 75.

PRO7 director Chief Superintendent Debold M. Sinas said the raid led in the recovery of a hand grenade which prompted officers led by Chief Inspector Judy Mar Bonilla to arrest Balansag.

The suspect is now being held at the Mabinay municipal police and will be charged with violation of Republic Act 9516 or  illegal possession of explosives are being readied against him.
