MABALACAT CITY, Pampanga -- A robbery attempt by a gambling loser resulted to the death of the husband of an overseas Filipino worker and serious injury of their son at the Madapdap Resettlement Center here last Friday.

Supt. Maharlika Oscar Villasis, chief of police here, identified the fatality as Raul Tuazon, 40, and the seriously injured son as Resh Joshua Tuazon, 20.

The suspect, Christian Austine Javinal, 20, was charged with murder and frustrated murder at the City Prosecutor’s Office here.

Investigation showed that the Tuazons were inside their residence along Sta. Rita Avenue at the resettlement center around 1:30 a.m. with Raul was having a video chat with his wife who works in Singapore.

All of a sudden, he was attacked at the back with a knife by someone who entered through the second floor window. The son came to his father’s aid and they fought off the suspect. The Tuazons suffered cuts and stab wounds while their attacker suffered head injury.

The shocked OFW wife then called their relatives also living in the same resettlement area.

The relatives could not enter the house because it was locked inside. One of them had to climb the second floor window to enter the house where he saw the bloodied Raul and Joshua lying on the pavement and the injured Javinal.

Raul was already dead due to fatal stab wounds while Joshua was struggling to stay alive. He was rushed to a hospital for treatment.

The suspect initially claimed that he was with the Tuazons when an unidentified man attacked them.

But when police interviewed Joshua, he disclosed that it was Javinal who attacked them with a knife without apparent reason.

Policemen arrested the suspect, while the knife used in the crime was recovered.

Follow-up investigation showed that prior to the fatal break-in and stabbing of the Tuazons, the suspect lost in gambling somewhere in the resettlement center and he might had wanted to commit robbery to gamble again.

Chief Supt. Joel Napoleon Coronel, Police Regional Office 3 director, commended the Mabalacat City police for the quick resolution of the fatal crime incident.

Also at the Madapdap Resettlment Center, Mabalacat policemen arrested one Jaime De Leon, 57, in a buy-bust operation.

Seized from the suspect were 20 sachets  of shabu and the marked P500 bill used in the police operation.
