CAMP Olivas, Pampanga -- Riding-in-tandem gunmen ambushed and killed on Monday a French-American national and his Filipina wife in Bgy. Banaba, Bamban, Tarlac.
Chief Supt. Joel Napoleon Coronel, acting Police Regional Office 3 director, identified the victims as Gregory Dion and his wife Linda San Pedro Dion, both residents of said barangay.
Police said the suspects carried out the ambush when the victims were about to leave their house on board a Ford Ranger pickup truck at about 9:20 a.m. The victims died on the spot.
Coronel said the Tarlac police are looking into the motive for the killing. Probers tagged three suspects in the killing of the victims -- two on board a motorcycle carried out the killing while the other served as lookout.
Police were able to establish the identities of the suspects by footages recorded on CCTV cameras installed at the crime scene.
During a follow-up operation hours after the shooting of the couple, police arrested two of the three suspects.
First to fall was Jason Dimarucut San Pedro, 29, single, of Sitio Pag-asa, Bgy. Anupol, Bamban, Tarlac.
San Pedro was reportedly a relative of one of the victims, Linda San Pedro.
Police said San Pedro served as lookout during the ambush-slaying, he was arrested at his residence eight hours after the crime was commited.
Another suspect, identified as Manolo Abagat Cabiga, 49, married, of Bgy. Mabini, Moncada, Tarlac, was arrested by the police at about 5:45 a.m. yesterday during a hot pursuit operation.
Cabiga has a standing warrant for attempted murder at the time of his arrest. He is currently employed as security supervisor at UNAHCO Feed Mill Inc. located at Bgy. Balete, City of San Fernando, Pampanga.
The two suspects are now detained at Bamban Municipal Jail while a case of two counts of murder were filed against them before the Tarlac Provincial Prosecutor’s Office.
