A 27-YEAR-old boatman in Payao, Zamboanga Sibugay ended up in jail after he yielded a loaded pistol after being accosted by security forces following a brief chase on Tuesday evening, a Police Regional Office 9 report said yesterday.
An investigation showed that suspect Gerald Usman Angeles, a resident of Purok 3 in Barangay Silal, Payao municipality attempted to evade a joint police-Army seaborne patrol prompting officers to give chase at 10 p.m., Tuesday.
Members of the Zamboanga Sibugay Provincial Mobile Force Company and the Army’s 4th Infantry Battalion gave chase and apprehended the suspect who yielded a caliber .45 Colt pistol with serial no. 748631. The chamber-loaded firearm contained a magazine with three live ammunition.
According to PRO9 director, Chief Superintendent Emmanuel Luis D. Licup, the suspect aroused the suspicion of the soldiers and policemen when he tried to evade their seaborne patrol.
The suspect is now facing charges for violation of the Omnibus Election Code and Republic Act 10591 or the Comprehensive Firearms and Ammunition Regulations Act of 2013.
