POLICE Regional Office 7 director Chief Superintendent Debold M. Sinas yesterday ordered an investigation into the escape of an arrested gun ban offender from a Cebu City police detention facility.
An initial investigation showed that Benjie Diaz, a 21-year old resident of T. Villa Street in Barangay T. Padilla, Cebu City was detained at the Cebu City Police Station 1 jail for possession of a bladed weapon in violation of the Omnibus Election Code.
However, a local policeman identified only as ‘PO2 Bacalso’ ordered Diaz and a fellow inmate named Ethan Guinar to bring out the police station’s trash to a trash bin located beside the police building in Bgy. Parian 3:45 p.m. Saturday.
After finishing their chores, the policeman reportedly accompanied Guinar inside their administration office to get hot water not knowing that Diaz was already sneaking out of the jail facility.
The suspect reportedly ran outside the building and scaled the perimeter and made good his escape. Sinas said that criminal and administrative charges await the policeman if it will be proven that his neglect enabled Diaz to escape.
The jail escapee is still being hunted as of press time, the official said.
