BURDEOS, Quezon -- A former drug surrenderee selling shabu died after he tried to grab the service pistol of a poseur policeman in a buy-bust in Bgy. Poblacion here Saturday evening.
Quezon police director Col. Ramil Montilla said Dante Tancinco, 59, farmer and native of Basog, Camarines Norte, sustained fatal bullet wounds and died-on-the spot.
Montilla said Tancinco, a resident of Sitio Judith in Bgy. Poblacion, placed under surveillance by the local police following reports that he was involved in drug peddling.
While one of the police officers was negotiating with Tancinco, Montilla said the suspect recognized one of them as a cop.
Tancinco grabbed the cop’s service pistol and the two grappled for it.
The other cops helped to overpower the suspect but the pistol suddenly went off three times hitting Tancinco twice in the chest and officer in the right arm.
They were both taken to Polillo Medicare Hospital for treatment but the drug suspect was declared dead upon arrival.
Probers recovered from the suspect’s pocket a plastic sachet containing 0.7 grams of shabu.
