DARAGA, Albay - Two heavy equipment -- a dump truck and a backhoe were torched by armed men at a construction site in barangay Lacad and Pandan -- about 7 p.m. on Friday, the local MPS reported.
Police Captain Dexter Panganiban, spokesperson of the Albay Police provincial office said, a representative from Horizontal Builders Corporation owned by contractor “Bucky” Macandog sought assistance from the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) in Daraga town, that their dump truck at barangay Lacad and a backhoe in barangay Pandan were reportedly on fire. While on their way to the location of the fire, local residents told that minutes earlier, armed men in groups were seen to have set ablaze the heavy equipment.
After the police had secured the fire scene, the BFP reported that both dump truck and backhoe have already been gutted by the fire, over an hour after it was reported.
A Horizontal Builders Corporation spokesperson said, it has yet to determine the cost of damages on the gutted heavy equipment.
Police sources said the villages of Lacad and Pandan were often intruded by suspected local communist rebels demanding for revolutionary taxes.
