Police Regional Office 4-B director, Chief  Superintendent Tomas C. Apolinario Jr. said that the suspect was arrested and jailed by the local police for allegedly raping the Irish woman.

Gaspe, a resident of Sitio Proper in Barangay San Fernando, El Nido was charged  for violation of Republic Act 8353 or the Anti-Rape Law of 1997 following a complaint from the tourist, said Apolinario.

The official said that the suspect was arrested following a complaint from the tourist who was accompanied by two fellow foreigners when she went to the El Nido Municipal Police Station two hours after the incident.

The complainant said that the sexual abuse took place in an alley leading to the Elternative Hostel in Barangay Maligaya El Nido around 4 a.m. Wednesday last week.
