Jail escapee-turned drug dealer slain in gunfight

A convicted murderer who escaped from the Davao Prison and Penal Farm and later turned into drug trafficking in Davao City was killed in a gunbattle with officers of the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency and the National Bureau of Investigation last Friday, PDEA chair, Director General Aaron N. Aquino said.

Suspect Rogelio Capistrano III alias ‘Jay-ar,’ a 21-year old resident of Golden Hills Subdivision in Panacan, Davao City exchanged fire with members of the PDEA Regional Office 11 and the NBI who tried to arrest him after he sold drugs to an undercover officer in Jade Valley Subdivision in Tigatto, Davao City, the official said.

Aquino said that the suspect had just sold a heat-sealed plastic sachet containing about a gram of shabu with a local market value of P15,000 to an undercover agent when he sensed the ongoing entrapment operation and pulled out a concealed caliber .38 revolver and began firing shots at the poseur.

Back-up operatives returned fire hitting the suspect who died while being taken to a local hospital.

According to Aquino, a record check showed that Capistrano was convicted for three counts of murder but he bolted the Davao prison colony.
