CABANATUAN City -- After their absence in the 2016 gubernatorial race, a member of the Joson clan is running for governor in the 2019 midterm elections.
Former Nueva Ecija Gov. Eduardo Nonato “Edno” N. Joson yesterday filed his certificate of candidacy for governor at the provincial Commission on Elections office.
He is running as an independent according to his CoC, said provincial election supervisor Atty. Panfilo Doctor, who received his CoC at 9:14 a.m.
Joson is a former administrator of the National Food Authority during the time of then-President and now Manila Mayor Joseph Estrada and also a former assemblyman and congressman of the province’s first district.
Next to file at 11 a.m. were former General Tinio Mayor Virgilio Bote and incumbent Provincial Board Member Edward Thomas F. Joson, both partymates at the ruling party’s PDP-Laban.
A former three-term mayor of General Tinio, Bote, also the provincial PDP-Laban chair, is running for governor while Edward, who is a nephew of Edno and eldest son of former three-term Gov. Tomas N. Joson III, serves as Bote’s running mate.
“Tama na ang plastic, alisin na ang plastic, ngayon Bote naman,” Bote told reporters, in referring to his campaign slogan coined by his running-mate Edward.
