Kagawad, 2 health workers killed as truck plows into checkpoint 

A VILLAGE councilman and two health workers were killed while another was severely wounded when a speeding truck driven by a drunk driver plowed into an enhanced community quarantine checkpoint in Maramag, Bukidnon yesterday evening.

The fatalities were identified as kagawad Aldren Gaitera and barangay health workers Jomalyn Buhayon and Margie Maribao while health worker Beth Lumanca was rushed to the hospital.

Truck driver Jemuel Ompoc, 24, was arrested after the incident.

Police Regional Office (PRO) 10 director Brig. General Rolando Anduyan said based on a report by Cpl. Gilbert Tello, one of those manning the checkpoint on Sayre Highway, Camp 1, in Maramag, a speeding 10-wheeler truck suddenly hit them around 11:45 p.m. killing    two health workers on the spot.

The councilman died while undergoing treatment in the hospital.

The truck also crashed into two vehicles parked in the area.

Local police said the truck driver was under the influence of liquor when the accident happened.
