Kagawad arrested for gun ban

A 45-YEAR-OLD barangay councilor (Kagawad) was nabbed  while in possession of illegal gun in a Comelec checkpoint in Bgy. VII-C, San Pablo City, Laguna, on Saturday evening.

Laguna provincial director, Police Col. Eleazar Matta, identified the arrested suspect as Anthony Manikad Cornista, kagawad of Bgy. Sto Angel, San Pablo.

According to Eliseo Bernales, OIC San Pablo police chief, the suspect will be charged for Violation of Omnibus Election Code (gun ban).

Police said the suspect was flagged down at a checkpoint at 11:40 p.m. for driving a Honda 110 motorcycle without  plate number and no helmet. When the suspect opened his body bag to get his driver’s license,  the cops saw the handle of a gun.

Recovered from the possession of the suspect was a Cal. 45 gun with no markings and with serial number R1A91788X and two magazines loaded with 14 live ammunition.

The suspect was temporarily detained at the custodial facility of San Pablo while pertinent documents were being prepared for filing appropriate charges.
