A HIGH-VALUE target involved in kidnapping and illegal drug trafficking yesterday was killed in a gunfight with the police in Calamba City, Laguna.

Laguna Police Provincial Director Col. Eleazar Matta said suspect Jayvie Bayani alias “Diglo,” 28, was killed in a shootout with the joint operatives of the Provincial Intelligence Branch  and the Laguna Provincial Mobile Force Company on Batino-Calamba-Tagaytay Road in Bgy. Barandal, Calamba City.

Matta said Bayani was a member of the Fajardo Group in Laguna, which has been tagged in several abduction and illegal drug trafficking activities.

The official said Bayani was the target of a buy-bust operation against  illegal guns.

Prior to the shootout, a police poseur managed to buy from the suspect a cal. 45 pistol in exchange for five P1,000 marked bills on Filinvest Road in Bgy. Barandal at 3:30 a.m. yesterday.

The suspect sensed he was dealing with lawmen. He drew his gun and fired at the officer while fleeing in a car.

Back-up operatives chased the escaping suspect.

A running gunbattle ensued until Bayani was fatally shot near a checkpoint set up by the police prior to the buy-bust.

Seized from the slain suspect was the marked money.

Police also recovered at the slain suspect’s car 150 grams of suspected shabu worth P1 million.
