Lanao cop, pal jailed for drugs, gun ban violation

A MEMBER of the Lanao del Norte Police Provincial Office and his civilian pal were arrested by policemen manning a checkpoint in Marantao, Lanao del Sur on Wednesday afternoon for illegal possession of dangerous drugs and violation of the gun ban, a report from the Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao Police Regional Office said.

Patrolman Alrajhi Londo Hadji Yasser, a 34-year old member of the Pantao Ragat Municipal Police Station and his companion Sowaib Baraocor Boransing, 29, a resident of Barangay Campong Inudaran in Marantao are now facing charges for violation of the Omnibus Election Code, Republic Act 9165 or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002 and RA 10591 or the Comprehensive Firearms and Ammunition Regulations Act of 2013.

The ARMM police said that members of the Marantao police force who were manning a checkpoint in Bgy. Pagalongan accosted the two shortly after Patrolman Yasser tried to turn back after seeing the checkpoint at 3:50 p.m. Wednesday.

Reports said that Yasser attempted to pull his weapon but was immediately subdued by officers.

When searched, the vehicle yielded seven heat-sealed plastic sachets containing suspected shabu, four disposable lighters, a strip of an aluminum foil, an unlicensed Uzi 9mm machine pistol with a magazine containing 10 live ammunition as well as Yasser’s PNP identification cards, uniforms and rig belt and ball cap.
