A magnitude 5.4 earthquake struck off Dinagat Islands yesterday morning, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) said.
The quake, which was earlier reported to be a magnitude 5.3, hit around 10:16 a.m., some 49 kilometers northeast of Loreto town.
Phivolcs said it was tectonic in origin and had a depth of 30 kilometers.
Intensity 5 was felt in Loreto; intensity 4 was recorded in Silago, Southern Leyte and intensity 3 was was felt in Surigao City, San Jose, Dinagat Islands, Limasawa, San Francisco, San Juan, Hinunangan and Maasin City, Southern Leyte, Tacloban City, Ormoc City, Palo, Hilongos, Bato, Hindang, Babatngon, Javier, MacArthur, Tanauan, Matalom, Abuyog, Isabel, Capoocan and Dagami, Leyte, and Lawaan, Eastern Samar.
Phvolcs said no damage is expected from the quake but will likely to experience aftershocks.
