CAMP OLIVAS, Pampanga -- A man with the rank of major in a paramilitary group was arrested by regional police intelligence operatives in Caranglan, Nueva Ecija last January 29.
Supt. Jay Dimaandal, chief of the Regional Intelligence Division-Special Concern Unit, identified the arrested suspect as Abe King Cacayan, 28, who was representing himself as a major in the “Transnational Anti-Organized Crime Intelligence Group”, which legitimacy is still being verified by the authority as of press time.
Cacayan was arrested through implementation of a search warrant issued by Judge Celso Baguio of the Gapan City Regional Trial Court for violation of Republic Act 10591, the Comprehensive Firearms and Ammunition Act of 2002.
Found in the suspect’s possession were a 12-gauge shotgun, a cal. .22 rifle, an MK2 fragmentation grenade, ammunition, and a black polo shirt marked “Major Cacayan ABK TAOCIG-0433.
He failed to present any document or license to own or possess the said firearms and explosive.
Dimaandal said that Cacayan is allegedly involved in gun-for-hire activities and series of hijacking and robbery incidents in Nueva Ecija and nearby provinces.
A source here disclosed that the suspect is also a person of interest in the abduction of Barangay Captain Buboy De Guzman of Piut, Caranglan last year. The barangay official is still missing to this day.
Charges for violation of RA 10591 were being prepared against the arrested suspect.
