IFUGAO -- The Kiangan Municipal Police Station received a phone call at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday from Barangay Kagawad Rey Buhong of Hucab that three unidentified suspects shot dead Christian Fruto Bonifacio, 25, married, carpenter from Sitio Balunglung, at Water World Restaurant.
Police said the victim sustained two gunshot wounds in the left chest and another in the right arm and was declared dead on arrival by physician Dr. Jessica Buduhan at Panopdopan District Hospital.
Kiangan police head Chief Insp. Edgar L. Tapo alerted the team manning a checkpoint conducting Oplan Bakal/Sita in Sitio Ibulao, Baguinge, led by Insp. Cosme Flores about the report.
Moments later, three men on board a motorcycle fired at the checkpoint personnel, hitting the right foot of Flores. An exchange of gunfire ensued as they chased the suspects, who managed to escape.
Flores was brought to Ifugao Provincial Hospital and later referred to Panopdopan District Hospital.
Police recovered the suspect’s motorcycle about 500 meters away from the scene.
A SOCO team recovered six empty shells for 9mm, a cartridge for 9mm and three empty shells for M-16 at the scene while four empty shells for 9mm were recovered along the national road and an empty shell for 9mm and a fired bullet for unknown caliber of friearm inside Water World Restaurant.
Police are hunting down the suspects.
