MARIVELES, Bataan-- Residents of this town maybe one of the luckiest in this time of crisis following ‘two waves’ of relief goods distributed right at their doorstep.
Taking the risk of being infected by the dreaded coronavirus, Mayor Jocelyn P. Castańeda, herself is personally leading the relief distribution right at the houses of thousands of households, earning applause from the media and her constituents,
“In fact, we have distributed two waves of relief goods to our barangay as we utilized all our available resources from the calamity fund to ensure that all households here will receive their relief goods,” said Mayor Castañeda in a long.
She said “ they utilized all unspent calamity fund since 2016 as we are in deep crisis.”
“The first wave,” Mayor Castańeda pointed out, “we gave rice subsidies directly to the barangay captains since we know that some of them lack the resources to provide relief to the barangay folk,” said Mayor Castańeda.
Then “we distributed in the second wave various canned goods, alcohol, rice among others and I wanted that all households could receive their own relief goods,” Castañeda said.
“Naawa rin ako sa mga kapitan lalo na yung mga kulang sa pondo, kaya nagbigay kami sa kanila ng karagdagang ayuda,” the lady mayor pointed out.
To ensure the smooth delivery of relief goods, Mayor Castańeda braved the scorching heat of the sun in leading the distribution to the barangay.
Asked if she is not afraid by the coronavirus, the lady mayor said “natatakot din ako pero kailangan kong lumabas sa ganitong oras ng krisis bilang pinuno ng bayan.”
A number of local chief executives and senators are the subject of massive verbal attack in social media for their refusal to go out and extend relief assistance to their constituents.
