SAN FRANCISCO, Quezon -- An Army trooper was killed after his patrolling team suddenly engaged in a misencounter with friendly forces in Sitio Matingam-Tingam, Bgy. Casay, here, on Wednesday morning.
Town police commander, Senior Insp. Lope Liwanag identified the slain soldier as Pfc. Arvin Andrade Peñaredonda, 24, assigned at the Army’s 85th Infantry Battalion based at Bgy. Sto. Niño, here.
Liwanag said the incident happened at 4:20 a.m while the soldiers were patrolling in the area when they encountered a squad of Citizen Armed Forces Geographical Unit (CAFGU) under 59th Infantry Battallion who was also patrolling.
As the two forces traded bullets, Liwanag said Peñaredonda was hit at the back of his body.
He was eventually rushed to San Franacisco Municipal Hospital but died on arrival.
Police are still investigating the incident.
