Moro Islamic Liberation Front brigade commander killed in vendetta attack

February 18, 2019

GUNMEN early Sunday morning shot dead a Moro Islamic Liberation Front brigade commander in Mlang, Cotabato and wounded one of his men in what police said was a “rido-related” killing or vendetta attack.

Commander Jun Pananggulon, the 7th brigade commander of the MILF’s 108th Base Command, was shot repeatedly and died on the spot.

Another MILF member, Toto Ante Magaluyan, was hit by a bullet in his ankle and was taken to a local hospital for treatment, said Police Regional Office 12 director Chief Supt. Eliseo Rasco.

Rasco said that the attack took place in Parcela 6, Purok 3 Langaban in Bgy. Gaunan, Mlang municipality at 7:50 a.m. on Sunday.

The killers identified as Tengan Anog, Nindi Dengkang, Pog Anog and Junior Abdul surrendered to local police and military authorities nearly 12 hours after the attack.

All are now under police custody facing criminal charges.

Security forces maintained their heavy presence in the area to prevent possible retaliatory attacks from the families of the victims.

The MILF brigade commander, accompanied by Magaluyan, was visiting  his corn and banana farm in Bgy. Gaunan when two motorcycle-riding men armed with M-14 automatic rifles arrived and opened fire at the victim without any provocation.

A police investigation showed that one of the suspects was a brother of a Moro National Liberation Front commander who was killed in an ambush perpetrated by MILF guerrillas late last year.
