TWO men named as the most wanted car thieves in Cagayan Valley and Central Mindanao were arrested.
Police Regional Office 2 director Brigadier General Jose Mario M. Espino yesterday said Paulo Evangelista, 24, a construction worker from Purok 5, Rufino Villave in Barangay Rizal, Santiago City, is now in jail after his arrest during an operation in Santiago City, Isabela on Saturday.
He said members of the Santiago City Police Station 1, the Isabela Provincial Highway Patrol Team and the PRO2 Regional Special Operations Division arrested the suspect based on a warrant issued by Judge Efren Cacatian of the Santiago City Regional Trial Court Branch 35 last January 7 for car stealing.
Philippine National Police Highway Patrol Group director Brig. Gen. Roberto B. Fajardo said the suspect was the latest to be arrested by his men in line with his order for all his 17 Regional Highway Patrol Units to go all out in their effort to account for most wanted carnapping personalities in their areas of jurisdiction.
The arrested suspect is now being held at the Regional Highway Patrol Unit 2 headquarters pending further court orders.
Meanwhile, a 28-year-old farmer tagged as one of the most wanted car theif in Central Mindanao was tracked down and arrested in Malaybalay City, Bukidnon by agents of the Philippine National Police Highway Patrol Group 9 a.m. last Friday, PNP-HPG director, Brigadier General Roberto B. Fajardo reported yesterday.
Suspect Jan Kristoffer Balarias, of Sta. Cruz, Dadiangas West, General Santos City, was arrested at the Malaybalay City Hall of Justice based on a warrant of arrest for violation of Republic Act 10883 or the New Anti-Carnapping Act of 2018 issued by Judge Renato Tampac of the General Santos city Regional Trial Court Branch 55.
Fajardo said that no bail has been recommended for the temporary liberty of the suspect who is listed as the Top 3 Most Wanted Carnapping Personality in Central Mindanao. The list was drawn up by the 12th Regional Highway Patrol Unit.
Fajardo said members of the RHU12, the Bukidnon Provincial Highway Patrol Team and the General Santos City Police Station 6 arrested the suspect and immediately brought him to the Bukidnon HPG office for booking.
