SAN ANTONIO, Nueva Ecija – Murder charges have been filed against a 40-year-old farmer who was arrested for allegedly killing his wife after a big spat over money here on Wednesday.
Town police head Major Roderick Corpuz identified the arrested suspect as Mario Cortez, farmer, of Bgy. Luyos, this town.
He was tagged as the lone principal suspect in the killing of his wife, Rosalinda Cortez, 40, who was found dead at 8:30 a.m. inside a tricycle in a farm the suspect was tilling in the same barangay.
Initial police findings showed the woman died after being hit by a hard object in the head.
Corpuz said the arrested suspect was also asked to explain why he ordered barangay officials at the site to remove his wife's body from the tricycle in the farm and transfer it inside their house before the conduct of proper police scene-of-the-crime operations.
At the police station, the couple's eldest daughter Alyssa, 19, demanded justice for her slain mother. She said she wants her father to pay for what he did to her mother.
Empaynado also theorized that a third party or a woman could be involved in the spouses' affairs since shortly after the suspect's arrest, his mobile phone which was in the custody of the police allegedly received a text message saying: "Tibayan mo ang loob mo, kaya mo iyan."
